IKO Shingle Repair: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
IKO shingle repair in Jacksonville typically runs $350 to $750 installed for a small to mid-size section, depending on how many shingles failed and what’s underneath them. We stock IKO-compatible shingles and sealants on our trucks, so most repairs happen in one visit. The way most homeowners discover a problem is simple: they spot a shingle in the yard after a storm, or they notice a dark patch on the ceiling where water finally worked its way through.
Jacksonville’s weather does not go easy on asphalt shingles. Between the summer heat that bakes roofs in Arlington and the wind gusts that whip through Mandarin before an afternoon storm, IKO shingles take real punishment. The failure rarely starts big. A lifted tab here. A cracked corner there. Then a wind-driven rain finds the nail line and suddenly you’re looking at a water stain on the bedroom ceiling.
Here’s the good news: IKO shingles are manufactured with specific dimensions, nail strips, and sealant patterns that make repair straightforward when the right person is on the roof. The bad news is that the wrong shingle, or the wrong install method, creates a weak spot that leaks again within a season or two. This page explains exactly what we look for, what it costs, and when a repair makes more sense than replacement.
Which IKO Models This Applies To
IKO builds several shingle lines, and the repair approach changes slightly depending on which one you have. In Jacksonville, we most often see three families: Cambridge (their architectural line, with the distinctive shadow band), Dynasty (a heavier architectural shingle with a wider exposure), and Marathon (their three-tab line, usually found on older homes or rental properties). Each uses a different exposure measurement, which matters when you’re weaving a repair into an existing roof.
Cambridge shingles expose roughly 5 5/8 inches per course. Dynasty exposes closer to 5 7/8. Marathon three-tabs expose 5 inches. If a roofer grabs the wrong shingle and slaps it in, the course lines drift, and the repair sticks out like a bad patch on a good jacket. We match the model first, then the color, then the exposure.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: IKO shingles are widely available through supply houses in Jacksonville, so we almost always install genuine IKO material on IKO roofs. That keeps the warranty clean and the color close. Aftermarket equivalents exist, but on shingles the price difference is small enough that going OEM is the smarter call. We carry a range of IKO Cambridge and Dynasty colors on the truck, and if your color is discontinued or backordered, we’ll tell you that before any work starts and give you options in writing.
One compatibility gotcha Florida homeowners hit: IKO changed their sealant strip design on Cambridge models around the mid-2010s. Older Cambridge shingles from before that change don’t always interlock cleanly with new stock. When we’re repairing a pre-2015 IKO roof, we account for that and adjust the fastening pattern so the repaired section holds. If you know the year your roof was installed, tell the office when you call. It saves us a trip up the ladder.

Signs Your IKO Shingle Repair Is Failing
- Shingles in the yard after a storm. This is the clearest sign. Wind gets under a lifted tab, peels it back, and the nail tears through. The shingle ends up in the grass. What’s left behind is an exposed nail line and a direct path for water.
- Dark ceiling stains or bubbling paint inside. By the time water shows up inside the house, it’s traveled through the shingle, the underlayment, and the decking. The leak might be several feet from the stain. We trace it back rather than patching where the water is and hoping.
- Granules stacking up in your gutters. IKO shingles, like all asphalt shingles, shed granules as they age. A light sprinkle after year one is normal. A thick pile of dark granules in the gutter every time you clean it means the shingle surface is failing, and the mat underneath is next.
- Curling or lifting at the corners. Jacksonville’s freeze-thaw is mild, but the summer attic heat cooks shingles from both sides. Corners curl up, the sealant bond breaks, and wind gets an easy grip. Curled corners rarely flatten back down. They get worse.
- Visible cracks running through the shingle surface. Cracks usually start above windows, doors, or wherever the roof deck flexes. A cracked shingle admits water slowly, and slow leaks are the ones that rot decking before anyone notices. By the time the stain appears, the wood underneath may need work too.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For IKO shingle repair in Jacksonville, the installed price range we write most often is $350 to $750. Small repairs, meaning fewer than ten shingles in one area, sit at the lower end. Larger sections, repairs around chimneys or valleys, or jobs where the underlayment and decking also need attention run toward the top of that range.
The price you get from us is the price on paper before any work starts. No change orders at the door because we found something once the shingles came off. We account for what we expect to find, and if we do find rotted decking or failed underlayment, we stop and show you before we add a dollar to the job.
Every repair includes matching the shingle model and color, replacing damaged underlayment in the affected area, sealing the repair and the surrounding course, and hauling off the old material. The work is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: in writing, for one full year, and if the repair fails within that period we come back at no charge. Travis Oakley has been running crews in Jacksonville long enough to know that if the repair is right, the call-back never comes. If it’s not right, we’re not done.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things from the ground or from a stable ladder. Count the shingles visible in the yard. Check gutters for granules. Look for curled corners on the sun-facing slopes. But going onto a pitched roof in Jacksonville after a rain, with a nail bag and a bundle of shingles, is where DIY goes wrong. Steep slopes, wet decking, and afternoon thunderstorms make a two-hour project into a hospital visit.
The other place DIY fails on IKO roofs is the sealant. IKO shingles rely on a thermal sealant strip that activates properly only when the shingle lies flat, in the right temperature, and isn’t nailed through the wrong spot. If the repair seals wrong, it lifts in the first good wind. We see those failed DIY patches all the time, usually one storm after they were made. If you want to check the roof yourself, do it from the ground. If you want it fixed, call (904) 719-6346 and we’ll put the price on paper before we touch anything.
FAQs
Architectural IKO lines like Cambridge and Dynasty typically last 18 to 25 years in Jacksonville’s climate, while older three-tab Marathon shingles average 15 to 20 years. The Florida sun and storm-driven rain shorten lifespan compared to cooler climates, so a 20-year shingle may show real wear at year 15. Call (904) 719-6346 for an inspection if your IKO roof is past year 15 and you’re seeing granule loss.
Yes, a single IKO shingle can be replaced when only one tab is cracked or blown off, and we do it often. The catch is that older shingles get brittle, and replacing one can loosen the ones around it. If the surrounding shingles are sound, a single-shingle repair works; if they’re brittle, a larger section repair is the honest fix.
Most IKO shingle repairs in Jacksonville take 1 to 3 hours on the roof, with a total visit of about half a day including inspection and setup. Weather is the wildcard. We schedule repairs around storm windows and confirm the window when the office calls you with the written price.
We stock a range of IKO Cambridge and Dynasty colors on our trucks, including the common Jacksonville colors like Dual Black, Weatherwood, and Driftwood. If your color isn’t on board, we source it through local Jacksonville supply houses, usually within a day or two. We also stock and install GAF, Owens Corning, and CertainTeed for homeowners weighing a full replacement, and we’ll tell you plainly which direction makes more sense for your roof.
Brennan Roofing Co Jacksonville is an independent service provider and is not affiliated with IKO. We install and repair IKO products because they’re a solid shingle line, not because we’re a corporate partner.
If your IKO roof is showing any of the signs above, call (904) 719-6346 to schedule a free estimate. A live person answers around the clock, no voicemail and no automated system, and you’ll have a written price before any work begins. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it applies to every IKO repair we do in Jacksonville.
